Our Story of Camel Milk

Camel Milk is one of our unique and signature ingredients. We chose to base our soaps and creams around this ingredient because its benefits in skincare have been known for thousands of years

Camel milk is rich in vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and the superstar ingredient, Alpha Hydroxy Acids or AHA. The combination of these is extremely beneficial to the skin providing moisturising, soothing, plumping, and lightening qualities. When Camel Milk is combined with other ingredients such as Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Coconut Oil, Beeswax and essential oils, these benefits are further enriched and enhanced.

What about the camels?

Camels are an important part of Emirati culture that dates back to its roots. In the past, camels were said to be God’s gifts to the Bedouin, as these animals often made life in the desert possible, providing everything from transportation to clothes, nutrition and skincare.

All our camel milk is sourced from a local UAE dairy that has over 1,800 camels. This dairy farm is fully ISO 22000:2018 certified and operates to a set of core values similar to The Camel Soap Factory. More importantly, the camels there are not treated as livestock but are positively pampered and treated as revered creatures.

Did you know

that in the UAE there are annual festivals around all-things camel related – and even a competition to crown The Most Beautiful Camel of the Year

While cows mature early and start giving milk from the age of two, it takes six years for camels to milk yielding maturity. The gestation period for camels is 13 months and a calf is born once every 2 to 3 years. The time commitment involved in producing camel milk commercially makes it a rare and highly coveted delicacy!

Given that the UAE is the natural desert habitat of the camel, it means they can freely roam outside all year round and don’t need to be penned except at milking time.
